28 February marks the 1980 referendum that set Andalucía on the path to autonomy. It is a regional public holiday: flag-raisings, town hall ceremonies, free entry to many museums, and the desayuno andaluz of bread, olive oil and orange juice served in schools.
For a visitor it matters mainly as a closed day. It falls on a Sunday in 2027, so the effect is small, and on a Monday in 2028, which makes a long weekend — and in 2028 it collides with Cádiz carnival week.
