Overview by Province

Málaga Province

Main Airport: Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport (AGP)

  • Location: Just southwest of Málaga city, close to the Costa del Sol.
  • Type: Major international hub for southern Spain and one of the busiest airports in the country.

  • Main airlines:
    • Full-service: Iberia, Vueling, British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France/KLM (often via hubs), TAP, Swiss, etc.

Málaga Airport is usually the best choice if you stay on the Costa del Sol (Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas Costa, Marbella, Estepona, Axarquía, etc.).

Sevilla Province

Main Airport: Sevilla Airport (SVQ, “Aeropuerto de Sevilla – San Pablo”)

  • Location: Around 10 km northeast of Seville city centre.
  • Type: International airport with strong domestic and European network.
  • Typical destinations: Major European cities (Paris, London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Milan, Rome, etc.) plus many Spanish destinations (Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, Palma de Mallorca, Canary Islands).

    • AENA Sevilla Airport – arrivals, departures, transport and services.

Best choice if you focus on Seville city, Sierra Norte, or western/central Andalucía (also an option for parts of Huelva and Córdoba).

Cádiz Province

Cádiz province does not have a large commercial airport in Cádiz city itself, but it is served mainly through Jerez Airport, plus Seville and Málaga as backups.

Main Airport: Jerez Airport (XRY, “Aeropuerto de Jerez”)

  • Location: Around 8–10 km northeast of Jerez de la Frontera; good for Cádiz city, Costa de la Luz and inland wine country.
  • Type: Small international airport with a mix of domestic and seasonal European flights.
  • Typical destinations: Madrid and Barcelona year-round; seasonal routes to Germany, UK, Switzerland and other European countries (often focused on holiday traffic).
  • Main airlines: Iberia/Air Nostrum and Vueling (domestic), plus Condor, TUI Fly, Ryanair and others seasonally.
  • Official website & info:
    • AENA Jerez Airport – flight info and transport.

For Cádiz city, El Puerto de Santa María, Chiclana, Conil, Tarifa and the Costa de la Luz, check Jerez first, and then compare with Seville and Málaga for more flight options.

Granada & Jaén Provinces

Two provinces share one airport:

Main Airport: Federico García Lorca Granada–Jaén Airport (GRX)

  • Location: About 15–20 km from Granada city; also used for parts of Jaén province.
  • Type: Medium-small airport with regular domestic and some international routes.
  • Typical destinations: Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and selected European cities (for example London and other seasonal routes, depending on airline schedules).
  • Main airlines: Iberia/Air Nostrum, Vueling, easyJet and other carriers depending on the season.
  • Official website & info:
    • AENA Granada–Jaén Airport – timetables, parking and transport.

This is the most convenient airport for visiting Granada city, the Alhambra, Sierra Nevada ski resort and large parts of Jaén (Úbeda, Baeza, olive-grove countryside). For more long-haul or budget choices, many travellers still use Málaga and then drive or take a bus/train.

Almería Province

Main Airport: Almería Airport (LEI, “Aeropuerto de Almería”)

  • Location: East of Almería city, close to the coast.
  • Type: International/charter airport serving the eastern part of Andalucía and the Costa de Almería.

Ideal for Cabo de Gata–Níjar Natural Park, Mojácar, Vera, Roquetas de Mar and the eastern Mediterranean coast of Andalucía.

Córdoba Province

Córdoba Airport (ODB)

  • Location: Just outside Córdoba city.
  • Type: Small airport mainly used for general aviation, training flights and private aircraft.
  • Commercial flights: At the moment there are no regular, large-scale commercial passenger flights like at Málaga or Seville.
  • Official information: AENA Córdoba Airport.

Most visitors to Córdoba arrive via Málaga or Sevilla airports and then continue by high-speed train (AVE), regional train or bus.

Huelva Province

Huelva province doesn’t have its own commercial airport. The most convenient options are:

  • Sevilla Airport (SVQ): Main gateway, around 1–1.5 hours by car or bus to many areas of Huelva.
  • Faro Airport in Portugal (FAO): Often used for the western Costa de la Luz and the border area; around 1.5–2 hours from some parts of Huelva.

For Doñana National Park, Punta Umbría, Isla Cristina, Ayamonte and inland Huelva, compare flights to Seville and Faro.

Choosing the Best Airport for Your Trip

  • Primary airport: Málaga (AGP)
  • Alternative airports: Granada (for eastern Costa del Sol/Axarquía), Sevilla or Jerez for western Costa del Sol if you don’t mind a longer drive.

2. City Break in Seville, Córdoba or inland provinces

  • Seville city: Fly into Sevilla Airport (SVQ).
  • Córdoba: Fly to Seville or Málaga, then continue by train.
  • Jaén/Úbeda/Baeza: Fly to Granada–Jaén (GRX) or Málaga.

3. White Villages & Surf on the Costa de la Luz

  • Best for Cádiz, Jerez, El Puerto, Costa de la Luz:
    • First look at Jerez Airport (XRY)
    • Then compare with Sevilla (SVQ) and Málaga (AGP) for more routes.

4. Eastern Andalucía & Desert Landscapes

  • Almería, Cabo de Gata, Mojácar, Tabernas Desert:
    • Use Almería Airport (LEI) when possible.
    • Consider Málaga as a backup with more flight options and then drive.

Practical Tips for Flying to Andalucía

Compare Routes and Airlines

  • Check both traditional airlines and low-cost carriers – prices and luggage rules can vary a lot.
  • If you don’t find a direct flight, consider connecting via Madrid or Barcelona, which have frequent daily links to all the main Andalusian airports.

Book Early in High Season

  • For Easter (Semana Santa), Feria season and summer holidays, flights to Málaga and Seville sell out quickly. Booking early usually means better prices and better flight times.

Consider Transport from the Airport

  • Málaga Airport: Has a local train (Cercanías) to Málaga city, Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, plus frequent buses and taxis.
  • Seville, Granada, Jerez, Almería: All have airport buses into the city and plenty of taxis.
  • If you plan a road-trip around Andalucía, booking a rental car directly at the airport is often the easiest solution.

Useful External Links

(Your assistant can add these as regular links on the page)

  • Official AENA pages for each airport: Málaga, Sevilla, Granada–Jaén, Jerez, Almería, Córdoba.
  • Route maps / “where we fly” pages of major airlines (Ryanair, easyJet, Vueling, Iberia, Norwegian, Jet2, TUI, etc.) if you want to give users direct access to up-to-date route information.
  • Links back to your province guides on GuideToAndalucia (for example: “Read more about Málaga province”, “Read more about Cádiz province”) so internal linking and SEO stay strong.
