Semana Santa in Seville
Around sixty brotherhoods, wooden floats carried from inside, and one night that everything else builds towards.
- Dates
- 21–28 March 2027 (Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday)
Roughly sixty hermandades process from their own parish to the cathedral and back across the week. The floats — pasos — are wooden, and the men carrying them, the costaleros, are hidden underneath with the beam on the back of the neck. You see the paso move and no one carrying it.
The peak is La Madrugá, the night of Holy Thursday into Good Friday dawn, when the most important brotherhoods go out — El Silencio, Jesús del Gran Poder, La Macarena, Esperanza de Triana. People stay out all night for it.
Seats on the official route are a hereditary subscription run by the Consejo de Hermandades; applications close around 31 January and very few reach outsiders. Assume you will watch from the street, which is free and in some ways better.
Hotels go six to twelve months ahead at two to four times normal rates. See when to visit Andalucía and the Seville province guide.
